PLEASE tell me you’ve seen this movie. If you haven’t, RUN to your nearest Netflix device and watch it. This was Ben’s pick for our Bradford Family Movie Night tonight, and boy, was it great. The theme of the movie is, “Nothing is greater than family.” It was also surrounded by love of Music and the subject of music therapy so, instantly, I was attached. It also brought back so many awesome memories of my time with Ben last summer in Cozumel.
Movies have a huge impact on us. They can inspire us, and give us our dreams (like another movie has done for my child this year).
I had my last final today for my May minimester course. It was a theater course that I absolutely loved. Today’s final consisted of inviting two of my high school students to campus to act out a scene from the play Our Town. My professor watched as I coached the two kids in technique to aid their acting. I love teaching acting. What hobby can allow you to become somebody completely different than who you are-giving you insight into someone else’s world. But the bottom line is, these amazing movies are nothing except great acting.
I could get on a rant about how Hollywood has put an unachievable goal in each movie, and it’s lying to our society…but you already know that. What about the positives that a good movie brings us? Tonight, this movie was clean, it had a great plot line, and taught my kids (and Ben and I) a valuable lesson on the importance of family. It also brought four people together to make memories.
We live in a world where everyone is complaining about something. I feel like we’re looking for things to be upset about. Sure, you can find something wrong with everything, but what’s wrong with enjoying the positive aspect of things? Do you know someone who is negative all the time? Do you like being around that person, or do you tolerate being around that person? Bringing a negative vibe into conversations or social media isn’t making the world a better place.
Now, I understand bringing awareness to bad things surrounding this bad world that we live in. These are tough times! There are problems that have been negatively influenced, and people need to know. But, what is your purpose? Are you also proving a solution for the negativity? Or are you just waiting for the comment or the amount of “likes” you get?
Proverbs 20:19 states, “Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.”
I challenge you to become aware of your conversations. How positive are you?
After my final, I went thrift shopping, got sushi to go, and came home to get in a quick work out and make some delicious dinner before movie night.
In lieu of all this positive energy, let me share with you a MUST TRY recipe if you’re looking for healthier meal options (because dieting can be negative too).
Yup. That is chicken and dumplings. For under 200 calories per serving! I posted the recipe below. Behind them is cornbread muffins…which is not diet food. Just saying.
I made the dumplings out of whole wheat flour (2 cups), baking powder (1/2 teaspoon), milk (1/3 cup), I can’t believe it’s not butter (2 table spoons). I brought some reduced sodium chicken broth (2 quarts) to a boil and let the cooked shredded chicken and the dumplings boil for around 20 minutes. It was so fantastic!
Stay positive, people! ✌🏻
