When Oceans Rise

My situation is pretty grim today. Only kidding. I am so blessed to be able to enjoy one of God’s most powerful creations with three of the most incredible humans this world has to offer.

My children’s favorite beach activity is outrunning the waves. They get as close as the can to the shoreline as the tide is rising and then they sprint away from the waves as the foam of each wave tries to grab their sprinting feet. Ellie decided today that the waves are like hands. They come up and grab what they want and pull it back into the water with it.

When we litter or accidentally leave our belongings on the ground, the waves scoop them up and take them into the sea with it. This causes the sea to become filthy and the fish to become sick. But this isn’t a blog from Captain Planet.

I can never help but think about the power of Jesus when I’m here. I hear his mighty voice and feel his calming peace. God is GREAT. And God is GOOD.

“Do not fear for I am with you. Do not be afraid for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you.” -Isaiah 41:10

God has provided us with way more than we deserve. I’m preaching to me! We were born a crystal clear ocean; the kind you see in the Caribbean. When our waves scoop up all the trash and dirt of the shoreline, it poisons our water and turns us into an opaque ocean.

There are so many times, like now, when I find myself reflecting the things I’ve scooped up. I feel worthless, and unwanted. But the same God that makes waves strong enough to destroy cities provides purpose for me despite my flaws. He removes the nasty that I have picked up along the shoreline and uses me as witness for other unclean seas.

It’s often hard for our human minds to wrap around the love, grace, and strength our God has for us. I am thankful I serve a forgiving God.

I’m going to continue my fall break enjoying this scene. Be cautious of the things your waves may pick up. You don’t need any of it. “My God will supply all your needs.” -Phillipians 4:19

Oceans

You call me out upon the waters

The great unknown where feet may fail

And there I find You in the mystery

In oceans deep

My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name

And keep my eyes above the waves

When oceans rise

My soul will rest in Your embrace

For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters

Your sovereign hand

Will be my guide

Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me

You’ve never failed and You won’t start now

So I will call upon Your name

And keep my eyes above the waves

When oceans rise

My soul will rest in Your embrace

For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders

Let me walk upon the waters

Wherever You would call me

Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander

And my faith will be made stronger

In the presence of my Savior

I will call upon Your Name

Keep my eyes above the waves

My soul will rest in Your embrace

I am Yours and You are mine
