Birthday Card from Above

Birthdays are special. They mark the day we entered this world. That’s the day we begin our mission; the day we embrace our purpose. It’s a day we meet those who love us, and discover the ones who will encourage us.

Today is Ben’s 30th Birthday. I recently found a card tucked in our safe that was addressed to “Master Benjamin Bradford”. 30 years ago, my husband was born to a family that poured themselves into his well being. They raised the most wonderful, godly man I could have ever dreamed of marrying. One man, in particular, was the rock of this family. His name was Bill, but we know him as Papaw or Poppa.

Papaw was my husband’s best friend-his buddy. Ben says he sees so much of him in Peyton (who is named after him). Papaw passed away in 2012. Many times, Ben will think of his memories of Papaw and really miss him, as does the rest of his family. It’s particularly hard on days like today, when he wishes he could be here for advice, for celebrations, for a simple “Happy Birthday.” When I ran across this card, I tucked it away for this special day-Ben’s 30th Birthday. Papaw would be so proud of him and his accomplishments. He would commend his parenting and smile on his active ness in the church. We know he’s celebrating with us in spirit, but tonight, we got to celebrate with his words too.
